mission
The Porch Gallery seeks to create a space and an experience that makes contemporary art accessible to anyone.
The gallery is a twenty-square foot white cube. We feature contemporary art and design wrapped inside our 1903 Victorian home. Viewers are encouraged to experience the work from our front porch through a large picture window.
The front porch exists as a transition point between the public and the private, an area that can be shared between the community and the intimacy of a home. It's where conversations occur, beers are shared and friends are made. By hosting exhibitions on our front porch, we seek to remove the air of exclusivity and elitism that often plagues the art viewing experience in a traditional gallery setting. By placing the art on our front porch, it allows for the art to be experienced by anyone, at anytime.
We are not a commercial art gallery. We are not a non-profit. We don't live or die by art sales or funding from grants. This freedom allows us to feature artists we believe in and support causes that are important to us.
Month long exhibitions are held June - October and include contemporary painting, sculpture and installation
about us
The Porch Gallery is run by Los Angeles transplants Dawn England and Mark Schoening. Full time security staff include Sharky, Ozzie and Eggs the cat.
The Fundraising
Each year The Porch Gallery hosts an Art Salon event. Over 20 contemporary artists across the Twin Cities partner with us to raise money for NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota. 100% of the artwork sales go to the organization. To date, we've raised $9,300 dollars that went towards protective reproductive freedom for women in Minnesota.
